And now, today's campaign.

On September 11, 2001, 2977 people were killed by terrorists inside the World Trade Center in New York City, inside the Pentagon in Washington, DC, on United Airlines Flight 93, United Airlines Flight 175, American Airlines Flight 77, and American Airlines Flight 11. The grim total includes the over 400 first responders who knowingly rushed towards likely death in an attempt to save other lives. Today we honor their memories.

And while that death toll is shocking, in 2020, the United States has suffered 192,000 deaths from COVID-19, with hundreds more dying each and every day.

We've now all heard the President's voice on the recently released tapes. On February 7, Trump told Bob Woodward that he knew C-19 was a dangerous, deadly, easily transmittable airborne disease. Subsequent to that conversation, he told the American people that it was under control. That it would soon miraculously disappear with summer heat. That the governors pleading for PPE for their frontline medical workers were whiners. That the fifteen cases would soon go down to zero. That urgency about the coming pandemic was a Democratic hoax. Trump held rallies in indoor arenas. He belittled mask-wearers. He suggested injecting disinfectant might help. He hawked unproven, untested drugs. And he lied, and politicized, and blamed China, and lied some more, leading tens of thousands of people who wanted to believe that their President was telling them the truth towards an avoidable death.

And he did so even though he is the person on our planet with the most physical and financial resources at his disposal, and the best scientific institutions and minds available to him. He instead choose to hide in a magical fantasy world of his own invention, rather than attempting to perform the bare minimum of work, to create urgency and unity around this very real threat, and to communicate truthfully.

COVID-19 has caused the equivalent of more than sixty-four 9/11s this year. Most of those deaths were preventable, had we a President who was willing to listen to experts, who did not put his ego above the well-being of those he pretends to represent, who believed in science, and who cared about other people besides his daughter. So today we donate our $10 - or more - and I hope it's more - to the presidential campaign of Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris. (We've hit 400 Sawbuck Patriots, so I'm at $80/day.)

The math says we can win this race. More importantly, we all know that we must. Let's drive this malevolent, dangerous, blood-on-its-hands administration out of the People's House.
