DAY FOURTEEN - CAROLYN BOURDEAUX

Day Fourteen | Carolyn Bourdeaux | GA-07
404 Sawbuck Patriots | $4190 pledged today | $66,925 donated overall

Team:

Thank you for the outpouring of support yesterday. I believe the number of you who donated more than $10 outstripped the number of you who donated your sawbuck alone, and one person responded to the Sawbuck Patriot email by maxing out to the campaign with a donation of $2800.

Whether it was the opportunity to spend money for Biden/Harris, or the opportunity to spend it directly against Trump, or the wellspring of emotion brought about by the nineteenth anniversary of the attacks - whatever it was, we collectively donated $19,270 to the Biden/Harris campaign. Personally, it felt good to reach deep into my wallet, and apparently I wasn't alone in that feeling.

And now, today's race.

THE SITUATION: GA-07 encompasses some Atlanta suburbs, and its demographics are rapidly evolving. Shockingly quickly, it has become (and is becoming, in real time) more diverse, more Democratic, and there is a dramatic increase in voter registration and voter engagement and voter turnout. In 2018, the Republican beat the Democrat by just 433 votes, making it the closest race in Congress that year.

THE COMPETITION: Perhaps due to the demographic change, incumbent Rep. Rob Woodall has announced that he’s quitting Congress, so it’s an open seat. A gentleman named Rich McCormick has assigned himself the job of keeping this district red, by winning his primary.

Rich has received campaign checks from the Koch family and the right-wing Club For Growth, so, friends, you know where he stands! He’s a Trumpista, having praised the federal “response” to COVID-19. He has become linked with (and declines to denounce) the utterly absurd QAnon lunatic fringe conspiracy, the media has had fun with how he keeps changing his website when he realizes he wrote terrible stuff on it, and this gentleman who seeks federal office may have cheated on his state taxes - the press continues to investigate the possibility that he seems to have pretended to live in low-tax Florida while actually residing in Georgia - for FIFTEEN years. He's all in for revoking Obamacare, he's staunchly anti-choice, and he is (of course!) a hydroxychloroquine proponent. This guy seems to be trying to out-Gaetz Matt Gaetz.

(Narrator voice: “The results are in: Matt Gaetz wins the Matt Gaetz Lifetime Unachievement Award by a nose over Rich McCormick, because he is literally Matt Gaetz.”)

(And if you are one of those fortunate people who somehow haven’t yet been made aware of Matt Gaetz, you could look him up, but allow me please to summarize him for you: imagine, if you will, an aggressively single, even-more-entitled 38-year-old Donald Trump plus that terrible fraternity that kept getting suspended multiplied by an ill-considered fifth round of Jägermeister after 3am at the house of a friend of an acquaintance where you just can't find your pants. That's Matt Gaetz. You’re welcome.)

But I digress.

OUR CANDIDATE:  Carolyn Bourdeaux worked in the Senate as a staffer, worked for her state as a finance official, is a prof at GSU, and knows how to use the levers of government to help people. She decisively won a contested D primary, is rooted in the district, and almost won it two years ago - when the demographics weren’t as favorable as they are today. She is a no-nonsense D, standing on a platform of investments in health care and education, and has flatly and unapologetically denounced the President for undermining the rule of law.

Yes, this has been an R district for a while - but the investments, the demographic changes, and the excellence of the D candidate in this race all add up to this: THE MATH SAYS SHE CAN WIN.

Sawbuck Patriots, it’s go time: click HERE and send $10 (or more!) to Carolyn's campaign. Our collective effort will invest $4190 today.
