The 2020 Facebook post that made this thing happen
Hello, friends. If you generally agree with the political direction of my posts, you share my desire to change our nation's direction, and you can invest $10/day until the election, please take a sec to closely read what's below. I wrote it for you.
Like me, you want to help oust the President and his administration, improve the composition of the Senate, and protect the Democratic majority in the House - but you see lots of campaigns asking for your money, and you're not sure which are the wisest places to invest your hard-earned resources to bring about the change we seek.
If this rings true, please join me as a founding member of Sawbuck Patriots*. Every day, I'll email you (and others!) with a link to a fundraising page for a WINNABLE race that needs financial assistance - a race where a vulnerable R can be replaced with a D alternative, a vulnerable D needs help fighting off a real challenge, or an open-seat pickup is within reach - and all of which will increase D voter turnout during this all-important national election. In turn, you, I, and everyone else in Sawbuck Patriots will send that campaign $10, which - in total - will land with some impact.
My promises: your money will be sent only to places where I'm convinced it will make a difference. As you know, I work in politics, and I have some insight into this arena. I'll combine my research with advice from my far-flung political network to identify critical races where there is a confluence of need and opportunity. I promise that I'll make the final decisions myself, and won't carry anyone else's water. This effort will cost nearly none of your time - you'll get one brief email a day from me, and you'll only need to make about three clicks to send your contribution along (after about five minutes of setup on your first day).
And here's a bonus: the more of you who join, the more money you make me spend. If we get to the 100 people I require as a minimum to kick this off, every day when I ask you for your $10, I'll put in $50. If we get to 200 participants, I'll put in $60/day; you stay at $10. (Unless you want to donate more, of course - your call.) And so on, all the way up to 600 people, which will require me to plug in $100/day. (It's too much money, but it's certainly needed at this unprecedented time.)
Some math: should we get 300 people in our group, we will each be an essential part of an investment of at least $200,000 into winnable races between now and Election Day. And I hope that sounds like something you'd want to be part of.
