DAY SIX - XOCHITL TORRES SMALL

Day Six | Xochitl Torres Small | NM-02
293 Sawbuck Patriots | $2930 pledged today | $16,385 donated to candidates

Team:

First, three notes of thanks. One: our membership is growing; we’ll go over 300 people sometime today, and that’s due to YOUR amplification of this effort. THANK YOU. Two, a couple of you have sent very nice notes saying that you’re enjoying my tempestuous writing - but I in turn should say THANK YOU for letting me be your very own Luther the Anger Translator. (If you don't get that reference please look up Luther Anger Translator on the Googles. You're welcome.)

And three, WOW, guys. Yesterday a pile of you said “not $10, $25” and a bunch of you said “not $10, $50” and a couple of you said “$100” and someone plumb lost their mind (or was angrier than Luther at Martha McSally) and said “I’ll do $500.” I guess science astronauts, or continued democracy, or shoving back those who support wannabe-dictators are all in vogue or something. But really - THANK YOU. It’s lovely to see so many of you increasing your donations beyond the base pledge - while few of us can afford to do so at this absurd time, none of us can afford to NOT.

THE SITUATION: NM-02 is solid Trump Country. While it's got part of Albuquerque in it, and some other smaller towns, It’s very rural - where the truck WITHOUT the gun rack is perhaps the more unusual one. It’s the fifth largest congressional district in the nation, and largest one that isn’t just a whole state all by itself. In the last five presidentials, it’s gone Bush, Bush, McCain, Romney, Trump. (Trump with a margin of ten, by golly.) And since the ‘60s, when the district was created, it’s exclusively been represented by white dudes. Until two years ago.

THE COMPETITION: Yvette Herrell, a Realtor, ran for and narrowly lost the seat two years ago, and is running again. She served as a NM state rep for a decade, and then ran a successful primary campaign to be the R candidate for Congress. After losing to our candidate in ‘18, she claimed (without evidence) that there was election fraud (sound familiar, Donald?), but eventually conceded the race to ...

OUR CANDIDATE:  Xochitl Torres Small. A former senate staffer, federal law clerk, and water attorney, she ran a great race for Congress in ‘18, exceeded all expectations, and eked out a close and unanticipated win over Herrell. Her advantages, without which she would have been defeated: her own persuasiveness, district knowledge, smarts, values platform and charisma - plus money. LOTS of money. In a district that’s so heavily pro-Trump, re-electing her will require substantial funds. When the insiders talk about the race, they regularly list Xoch as “The Most Vulnerable Member of Congress” or “The Seat The Republicans Think They Can Flip.”

(Narrator voice: "Not if we have anything to do with it.")

Xoch can win. We know this because SHE ALREADY WON. It’s the same district as it was two years ago. She faces the same opponent. Unfortunately for humanity, the same terrible, terrible President continues to eat the airwaves and make it all about him. And she’s got the same persuasiveness, smarts and charisma that she had two years ago. Of course, the Rs were supposed to hold this seat two years ago, so they're targeting it FAR harder than they were last round.

So it’s up to US to deliver her the money she needs to hold this seat, and help us hold the House. And as we always point out: THE MATH SAYS SHE CAN WIN.

Sawbuck Patriots, it’s go time: click HERE and send $10 (or more!) to XTS’ campaign. Our collective effort will invest $2930 today.
