Thank you Sawbuck Patriots! Your support is why we are in a position to defeat one of the most partisan career politicians in Washington. I know what's possible when we bring people together to solve problems, and the stakes if we fall short. It's not about Republican or Democratic solutions, it's about putting our communities first and finding the right solution. That's why I'm running for Congress.

Awesome - thanks, Brynne! But that was yesterday. And this is today. So let's go.

THE SITUATION: We have to win back the Senate. If Biden and Harris win (incense/prayer/donations/text-banking/THERE ISN'T ANOTHER OPTION DAMNIT) but the Democrats don't also flip the Senate, the brilliant, nefarious and effective bastardry of Mitch McConnell and his fellow dinosaurs will slow the agenda to a crawl as they throw buckets of sand in every available gear.

Arizona is truly on the verge of turning blue - its rocket-like growth as a state (from 29th- to 14th-largest in 25 years) is substantially due to Latinx population - and flipping this Senate seat is well within reach. Trump only won by three points four years ago, and is behind in the polls today. But we GOTTA win back the Senate. Just GOTTA.

THE COMPETITION: Martha McSally was appointed to the Senate in 2019 by AZ Gov. Doug Ducey, to the seat left open by former AZ Sen. Jon Kyl (winner of Shortest Name Of A Senator Ever - check Guinness) who was, in turn, appointed by Ducey in 2018 after the death of Senator John McCain. And if you that wasn't explicit enough, let me make it explicit - McSally hasn't ever been elected to the Senate. (And she tried in 2018, when she was beaten by the badass #KyrstenSinema because basically Kyrsten Sinema is an utter badass.)

Has McSally praised the President for his COVID-19 response? Yup. Did she say that asking people to stay home from work due to C-19 was "too much of a panicked reaction?" Yup. Vote with the Tangerine Tornado 95% of the time? Yup. Opposes the $15 federal minimum wage? Yup. Repeal Obamacare? Yup. Against legalizing medical weed? OBVI. 6% score from the League of Conservation Voters? Yup. Has taken the fifth most contributions from gun groups - of 435 lawmakers? YUP. Against universal marriage? Yup.

OUR CANDIDATE: Mark Kelly, who is married to American Hero Gabrielle Giffords, successfully trained to become an astronaut. That carries along a broad job description, but it boils down to this: He Does Space Science. He's cool with basing his COVID-19 response on actual science, he's cool with making employers pay people enough to survive, he's cool with preserving and expanding Obamacare, he's cool with medical marijuana, he's cool with protecting the environment, he's cool with sensible gun registration laws, and he's cool with consenting adults marrying each other. And again, in case you missed it: our candidate, Gabby Giffords's husband, was a SCIENCE ASTRONAUT.

In a race that's seen leaderboard ups and downs, Kelly is currently ahead. (Narrator voice: "Of course, the only poll that matters is the one on election day.") Let's work to keep Gabby Giffords' husband ahead until the absentee ballots are returned, election day has passed, and we turn Arizona blue. THE MATH SAYS HE CAN WIN. (And, of course, he must, if we have any hope of flipping the Senate.)
