Let's get to it.

THE SITUATION: CA-4 - Ranging from Yosemite to Truckee, working its way west to Roseville and Rocklin, and encompassing all or part of ten counties, this district is huge. Approximately three fourths of the voters reside in two mostly suburban counties: Placer and El Dorado. The district was recently quite staunchly Republican; it has been evening out as of late, with nearly a third of the district voting in a more party-independent fashion. Trump won it by fifteen points four years ago - and polls show Biden and Trump running even in CA-4 today, where red has given way to purple.

THE COMPETITION: Tom McClintock, your six-term CA-4 congressman, ladies and gentlemen. Tom McClintock. Gracious. Where to start? Member of the more-conservative-than-House-Republican-leadership "Republican Study Committee." Pledged to vote against global warming legislation if it might raise a cent of taxes. Voted against condemning the President for abandoning US allies, the Kurds - one of only two California Republicans to so vote. Opposed same-sex marriage. Voted just last year against the Equality Act, which would further the Civil Rights Act of '64 to ban discrimination on orientation and identity! Voted for a partial repeal of Obamacare. And he was one of only forty members of Congress - and the ONLY one in California - to vote against the federal COVID-19 aid package back in March, and he's continually discussed the pandemic as less of a health crisis and more of a threat to the economy, because priorities. (Narrator voice: 184,000 Americans have died from this terrible threat to the economy... so far.) In the aftermath of that vote, and his explanation for it, the Sac Bee editorial board explained that he'd "lost touch with reality."

OUR CANDIDATE: Just like the "where to start" with McClintock: Brynne Kennedy - where to start? She's the founder and former CEO of a successful tech business. The founder of a charitable initiative aiding political refugees. A three-time State Champion competitive gymnast. A former columnist for the Financial Times, who's managed multi-million dollar spreadsheets for her multi-national work financing housing and infrastructure. She's a Yale-educated and London Business School-MBA'd, Mandarin- and French-speaking, tough, smart, and well-spoken person that would cause your resume to set itself on fire and throw itself in a trash bin, if hers was anywhere nearby.

And because of changing demographics, McClintock's surging unpopularity, and the hard work of Brynne and her great team - recent polls, by reputable pollsters, have this race in a statistical tie.  McClintock's previous races have ranged from blowouts to close calls; he can be beaten.
