DAY TWO - SARA GIDEON
Team:
Let's start out day two with what I found in my inbox this morning.
Dear Sawbuck Patriots,
I'm honored and incredibly grateful to have been chosen as your first candidate to support in this project. I'm going to win this race and it's all thanks to generous folks like yourselves - together, you raised over $1,300 for my campaign.
From the beginning, my campaign has focused on grassroots support and unlike my Trump-endorsed Republican opponent, I'm not taking a dime of corporate PAC money. Thank you for being with me in this fight and let's turn TX-24 blue!

Now that we're all inspired that we can actually make a difference - on to day two.
THE SITUATION and THE COMPETITION: In Maine, a state of 1.3M people where retail politicking is within the reach of even Senators, Susan Collins has served as one since ’97. Having commendably struck a somewhat independent balance for a Republican Senator in her first three terms, she foolishly chose to squander those principles, and her voting record of late shows her as strongly allied with Trump. Whether the topic is Kavanaugh, impeachment, cruelty, immigration or criminality, Collins’ repeated attempts to have her cake and eat it too have backfired. Over and over again, she says genteel words about how concerned she is about things – and then does nothing to stop that which she claimed to be concerned about. And her once-strong approval ratings – in the 80s just five years ago – have dipped into the 30s this year. In her last two races, handicappers correctly called her seat safe. This year, regular caving to Trump plus the state’s demographics – Republicans with 295K registered voters, and Democrats with 386K registered voters – have combined to shift this race into to toss-up territory, and polls regularly show Collins trailing her Democratic opponent. This is one of the races Democrats must win to retake the Senate.
OUR CANDIDATE: Our second Sawbuck Patriot effort will be on behalf of Sara Gideon, the Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives. She decisively won Maine’s three-way Democratic primary with seventy percent of the vote. She’s good on gun policy (pro universal background checks), environmental policy (pro Paris Agreement, regulating greenhouse gas emissions), and personal civil liberties and human rights. (Narrator voice: And importantly – she isn’t Susan Collins.)
Sawbuck Patriots, it’s go time: click here and send Sara’s campaign $10. Our collective effort will land her $1765 today.
This is an Act Blue contribution. If you have not already set up an account with Act Blue, create one as you contribute today. Going forward, all contributions through the Act Blue platform (which I expect most to be!) will require you just a couple clicks.
If you sent more than $10, or you made it a recurring contribution, please drop me an email with details so I can keep our cumulative, ongoing totals approximately correct. Don’t get all patriotic and spend all your money today, though – we’re all committed to sending $10/day through the end of the campaign!
I’ll post what we’ve accomplished today on Facebook. If you’re proud of what we’re doing as a group, please do the same with your own social media, which will encourage others to join up and magnify our impact.
And of course, a note of thanks – we substantially grew our membership yesterday, primarily because of your advocacy for it. Thank you.
See you tomorrow!
