DAY THIRTY-TWO - GARY PETERS

Day Thirty-two | Gary Peters | Michigan Senate
723 Sawbuck Patriots | $7683 pledged today | $269,577 donated overall

Team:

That was a horrible thing to watch. I hope you're even more strongly compelled to get this man, his lies, and his supporters out of office. Some thanks from past recipients, to start:

Dear Sawbuck Patriots,

I wanted to express my gratitude for your support. Hundreds of you stepped up to support our campaign in South Central Pennsylvania. There’s a lot at stake in Pennsylvania this cycle and my team and I are working hard to make sure nothing is left on the field.

I’m humbled by the power of grassroots dollars. It's thanks to generous supporters like you that we have a real shot at flipping this crucial seat and ensuring that Pennsylvania's 10th District has a strong voice in Congress. Keep fighting the good fight.

Onward to Nov. 3rd.

Eugene DePasquale

I wanted to personally thank Sawbuck Patriots for your support for my race. I pledged not to take any corporate PAC money because I want to be beholden to the people, not the special interests. When I tell people that, their first question is always inevitably, "Well then how are going to compete with the Koch money and Mitch McConnell's Super PACs?" I always tell them that I am absolutely convinced that a grassroots, people-powered campaign will always beat corporate special interests if people step up and support my race--and you've done just that, and I'm looking forward to proving our theory when we win in November. Thanks so much to each and every one of you!

Al Gross

THE SITUATION: Michigan is a swing state. It’s voted with the winner of the Presidential election since 1980 - choosing Reagan and Clinton and Bush and Obama twice each, and Bush Jr. and Trump (barely) once. Bellwether? Leading indicator? Representative of the nation’s feelings? Whatever it is, Michigan’s seeming ability to forecast results makes it seem of outsize importance.

Michigan sends both Rs and Ds to manage it as their Governor and to represent it in DC; half the members of the House delegation are Ds, and half are not.

Our work to support our candidate for Senate will also support enhancing voter turnout amongst Ds in this important swing state.

THE COMPETITION: John James is an Army veteran who was a bad-ass Ranger who piloted Apache helos in Iraq, earned master’s degrees from Penn State and UMich. He ran for US Senate two years ago, losing to Senator Debbie Stabenow. (This was the race where Kid Rock kept talking about running for Senate, roiling the potential entrants, but never followed through. Yes. "Kid Rock" and "Senate." That is a sentence I wrote which is the truth, strange as it may seem.)

Trump endorsed James in 2018, shortly before the primary. Trump also considered naming James Ambassador to the United Nations a couple times, after he lost his Senate race, but he never pulled the trigger.

James is proudly anti-choice, he seeks to defund Planned Parenthood, he has called Roe “genocide,” he wants to repeal Obamacare, and he has said that he’ll support Trump “two thousand percent” if elected to the Senate.

(Narrator voice: “That’s not how math works. See below for how math works.”)

OUR CANDIDATE: Gary Peters is a Senator from Michigan who is finishing up his first term. Before serving in the Senate, he was a member of Congress for three terms, and before that, served in the Michigan State Senate, was an investment advisor, taught at Central Michigan University, and served in the US Navy Reserve. He’s got an MBA from the University of Detroit, holds a JD from Wayne State University, and has (unusually for an elected official!) a MA in philosophy from Michigan State University.

He’s voted for the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, for DREAMers, has supported choice in various votes, and former Congressman and no-BS champion Barney Frank called Peters “the single most effective person” fighting to keep Detroit Motor City and Detroit auto manufacturers solvent. This Rust Belt candidate was endorsed by progressive stalwart Elizabeth Warren.

Also, he’s a Democrat, and James is not, and this Republican Party needs to be reminded that turning over its soul to Trump must be rewarded with an emphatic, thumping defeat.

THE MATH SAYS GARY CAN WIN, and we’re gonna help him get re-elected.

Sawbuck Patriots, it’s go time: click HERE and send $10 (or more) to Gary's campaign. Our collective effort will invest $7683 today.

Thank you.
