420 Sawbuck Patriots | $4650 pledged today | $99,255 donated overall

Two inbound notes for you:

---------

"Sawbuck Patriots--wow! I am so incredibly grateful for your donations. Your support to help us flip Alamance County blue will go a long way in extending our digital and mail programs (by a whole week!). As voters hear my story and my vision for NC, they are overwhelmingly voting blue. We win by razor thin margins here in NC, so your help truly goes a long way--up and down the ballot. Thank you!"

- Ricky Hurtado

I want to thank Sawbuck Patriots for your amazing support today on your day of action for my campaign. I was happy to learn for the first time, honestly, what a "sawbuck" is, and then to see so many of them through your generous group!

Grassroots donations have always been the backbone of my campaign. I have rejected corporate PAC contributions from day one and believe that to truly have a government of and by the people, we need to end the influence of money in politics. Of course, running a campaign is expensive, so your contributions will go directly to our field and outreach efforts in Nebraska's Second Congressional District.

All the polls show that the outcome of CD2 in Nebraska will likely help determine the next President, so you are not only helping me, you are helping the Biden-Harris team defeat Trump.

Lovely notes. Your work to support these candidates is being noticed, folks. Thank you.

But that's the rear-view mirror. Let's look at the road ahead.

THE SITUATION: AZ-06 covers some of Phoenix's suburbs, including Scottsdale. The district has voted conservatively in the past couple decades: Bush, Bush, McCain, Romney and Trump prevailed in the past five presidentials. But while the first four all won 60%+ of the vote against their D opponents, Trump collected only 52%. And Senator Kyrsten Sinema nearly won this district (in her statewide election) in 2018, portending substantial and imminent change.

The numbers in the district are evolving. The incumbent R, who has served five terms, hasn't been opposed by a well-funded D since getting into office. But with the changed demographic numbers in the district, plus a well-publicized scandal (more shortly!), the district is now gettable for Ds, and national organizations and D operatives see it as a real opportunity for a red-to-blue pickup.

THE COMPETITION: David Schweikert. He's received a 5% lifetime rating from the League of Conservation Voters, he's anti-choice, is an anti-immigration hardliner, and opposes even incremental gun safety law reforms and safeguards. A sweetheart, indeed.

(Narrator voice: "But wait...")

Shockingly, Schweikert has been in the news a lot this year, but not regarding his legislative record. He was recently reprimanded by the House for eleven ethics violations, including pressuring his staffers to do explicitly political work, misuse of his congressional office's funds, and misuse of taxpayer funds. And no, these aren't just unproven political accusations in the heat of a campaign - about six weeks ago, Schweikert admitted to the violations, and paid a $50K fine. This is fresh stuff, he's copped to it, and he's being hounded for it by the local media and leaders who care about ethics.

OUR CANDIDATE: Please meet Dr. Hiral Tipirneni. She's done cancer research advocacy and worked as an ER physician. She's locked down enormous support from labor unions, elected leaders, and community leaders. She's an aggressive fundraiser and excellent campaigner. Two years ago, she ran for Congress in an adjoining district - one that was much more conservative than AZ-06 - and outperformed the expected numbers based on previous races by seventeen percentage points.

This race is ranked as a close one by all the major handicappers; it's on the DCCC's flip slate, Cook's and Crystal Ball and Political Wire have it in the toss-up to slight lean categories, and EMILY'S List is making it a focal target. Like yesterday, your dollars here multiply as they help Hiral, as they lend an assist in Mark Kelly's Senate race, and they turn out Ds for Biden/Harris in a swing state. THE MATH SAYS SHE CAN WIN.
