Team:
I am sure that you, like me, wish the first family and the RNC chair and infected staffers a speedy recovery from COVID-19. And that's all I'm going to say about that.
THE SITUATION: I'm looking at Texas right now, and well, folks, all I'll say about this is that it is just some BULLSHIT.
Less than two days after the President stirs up his Proud Boys and tells his supporters to go watch the polls, behaving in an unprecedentedly hostile fashion towards our elections, Texas Governor Greg Abbott proclaims that his counties must each have only ONE ballot drop-off location. Not the right number to deal with their population - but ONE.
One drop-off location. Per county. In TEXAS. This is some arbitrary, suppressive BULLSHIT.
Here's the problem, folks: Texas is kind of large, as you may have heard. One of their counties is bigger than Connecticut plus Rhode Island. Another of their counties has a quarter of the state's Black population, and one in five Texas Latinos - and includes Houston, and totals nearly five million people. (It was slated for eleven dropoff locations, which seems supremely insufficient to me - but ONE?)
Don't take my word for it: here's the far-left, socialist, NBC News report on it. (Am assuming that all Sawbuck Patriots are able to see sarcasm - but that was indeed scarcasm. NBC News is reliably, almost boringly centrist.)
This is outrageous voter suppression. Just absurd, steal-the-victory, keep-the-libruls-away-from-the-polls bullshit. I'm heated, and I hope you are too.
So today we're steering our sawbucks (or more!) to Rideshare2Vote. This organization is working to drive Texas Democrats to the polls on Election Day. Specifically, they're finding, reaching out to, and planning ahead with youth ages 18-27, people in disenfranchised communities, first-time voters, infrequent voters, disabled people, people living in poverty, the elderly, and VBM voters.
This naked political play that Gov. Abbott is utilizing to make voting harder in Texas? Let's pull on our cowboy boots and kick it right in the ass. They're estimating costs of about $15/ride, so today would be a swell day to give $15 or $30 or some other fun multiple of that cost to help make sure this undemocratic bullshit is repudiated by the good people of the Lone Star State. (Let me know if you do something other than $10, please.)
(Sorry. I'm mouthy today. But voter suppression does indeed wreck my profanity filter, damnit.)
Sawbuck Patriots, it’s go time: click HERE and send $10 (or more) to Rideshare2Vote. Our collective effort will invest $7903 today.
Thank you.
- Alex
