DAY FORTY-FOUR - BREAK THE KS STATEHOUSE SUPERMAJORITY
Day Forty-four | Scholtz and Hoye | Kansas Statehouse
767 Sawbuck Patriots | $8251 pledged today | $407,828 donated overall
Team:
First, please look above; this little thing you joined has exceeded $400K in contributions to folks who want to help save democracy. (And that's AFTER I removed a few dozen people who haven't been participating, and un-applied their donations from our overall totals.) Bravo to you!
From the mailbag:
Hello from Alaska! Thank you, Sawbuck Patriots, for your generous support of this race and many others. We are working hard to ensure every Alaskan voice is heard in this election and with your help, I’ll be able to reach Alaskans from Ketchikan to Kotzebue. I appreciate your support for this winning team. Keep up the great work!

THE SITUATION: We're staying in Kansas today. And we're here because of NY4US, which is basically a cousin of SawPats - check them out! Focusing on building the bench of national D leaders in the future, NY4US was founded by New Yorkers and is supported by folks across the country. Their members strategically donate to key statehouse races across the country, both to fight state-level gerrymandering and to ensure a strong crop of leaders are ready to represent their states in DC, when the opportunity comes.
Today, in conjunction with NY4US, we're supporting two excellent Kansas statehouse candidates - Jo Ella Hoye and Joana Scholtz. Joana helped integrate her high school, reopen her NAACP chapter, and served as an Army military intelligence officer. Jo Ella is the leader of the Kansas Moms Demand Action group, which fights for common-sense gun laws across the nation. In their own words:
“Hello, Sawbuck Patriots! We’re Jo Ella and Joana, two candidates running to flip seats in the Kansas State Legislature from red to blue. Since 2016, when Kansas voted in Trump over Clinton by more than twenty points, our state is undergoing dramatic changes. In 2018, we elected a Democrat as Governor, and three of our state legislators have switched from the Republican party to the Democratic party - including our candidate for Senate, Dr. Barbara Bollier.
And we’re on a critical mission – breaking the Republican supermajority in the statehouse. If we can flip our seats (and hopefully a few others), our Democratic state reps will be able to sustain our Governor’s vetoes, increasing her ability to move Kansas forward.
We really appreciate your strategic investment in our effort; our two seats are winnable because of our resumes of service, our strong campaign teams, and our positive messages. Your dollars will help us get over the top, and we’re grateful. And we hope to see many of you today!”
- Joana Scholtz and Jo Ella Hoye
So, democracy enthusiasts, check this out: today at 6p Eastern/3p Western, NY4US will host an interactive Zoom with Joana and Jo Ella - featuring special guest Sharice Davids, US Representative from Kansas, who is the first D elected to a Kansas congressional seat in a decade. NY4US has kindly allowed us to co-host.
Want to join the Zoom? Let me know. We've got about forty seats available for interested parties. If you donate $100 today, your slot is automatically reserved - just drop me an email. If you donate less, please email me that you're interested. I'll put your name in the lottery for any open seats, and let you know by 1pm Pacific if you've made it, along with the access credentials.
Sawbuck Patriots, it's go time: click HERE to send $10 (or more!) to the campaign to get these strong leaders elected. Our collective effort will invest $8251 today.
Thank you!
