DAY FIFTY-NINE - FIRE ALL CANNONS

Team:
Eight days before an election where tens of millions of people have already voted, Trump and the Senate shoved through a Supreme Court Justice. (Four years ago, esteemed jurist Merrick Garland didn't get a hearing from the same R Senate leadership for eight months.) For the first time in 150 years, a Justice was confirmed without any votes from a minority party, as this frantically hurried process was steeped in hypocrisy, and as the end result will reverberate for a generation or more.
McConnell, Graham, and other R leaders knowingly lied about their reasoning for refusing to consider Garland's nomination. This year, they discarded that reasoning without batting so much as an eyelash, at the very moment there was political benefit for them to do so. (And the entire R Senate complacently fell in line.)
I believe in fair play, and I believe those receiving this email do, as well. (As do nearly all Americans, and people around the world.) I believe your words matter, and that giving your word constitutes a contract. I believe in civility, and the rule of law, and that people of deeply different perspectives can work together - but only when they recognize rules that govern their collective conduct, and they play by those rules.
But I don't believe the leadership of our nation's Republican Party believes that any longer. And they've showed that by their actions - over, and over, and over. During the past dozen years, we have all witnessed an increasingly blunt, weaponized R perspective - one that assumes we silly Ds will continue to respect dumb, outdated rules of "fair play," and that asymmetrical warfare can be used against us without real consequence. McConnell and his allies have decided the voters won't punish them for transgressing beyond the recognized bounds of political fairness; they have brought a cruise missile to a knife fight. They are beyond caring about consequence; they simply seek a win, at whatever cost.
Those tactics have indeed won them this battle. And now we must win this war, drive them from their seats of power, and model governance with both intensity AND integrity. The difference couldn't be clearer, and the stakes couldn't be higher.
Today's the day we make our final seven (or more!) donations of $10 (or more!) We need to get the money to the candidates today, a week before election day, so they know what resources they have and campaigns can deploy them effectively.
During this coming week, we'll advise you about other ways to act - writing letters, making calls, helping at the polls, and so on. And after the election, if Trump makes good on his threats to undermine the integrity of the election, we'll keep going.
The list below has been strategically crafted. A team of eighteen Sawbuck Patriots from around the nation - all politically active and savvy, and about half of whom currently work on congressional and presidential campaigns - have aided me in creating this final ranking. The folks at the top of the list have been deemed more strategic targets; towards the bottom, less so.
Your job:
Decide on your budget for today. And now (I'm sorry!), please consider increasing it to a more painful amount. (Thank you.)
Click on links, donating as much as you can to as many candidates as you can, until your credit card cries.
For instance: $10 to seven candidates on this list covers your pledge. You could also do $25 to each of the first ten candidates on the list. Or $10 each to thirty candidates of your choosing, or so on. Mix and match, completely your call. But please donate at least $70 today.
If you've forgotten the details on races, remember that all daily letters are here.
IMPORTANT: email me with your TOTAL donation amount, not the amount to each candidate; I don't know how much you donated unless you tell me, because your donations go directly to the campaigns, not through me.
And please don't unsubscribe; while we're done donating $$$ for now, we're not DONE done. We'll have more ideas for you in coming days. Thanks.
Thank you, team. Today will be our biggest one day total of this effort. Let’s make it count!
